Brenda Westberry is the founder of Westberry Consulting where she has been involved in developing and conducting numerous workshops, trainings, staff development programs and courses for non-profit and for-profit agencies throughout the country. Brenda has lent her experience to organizations in the field of Criminal Justice, Addiction Services, Behavioral Health, Human Services, Business and Staff Development. She is a retired Chief Adult Probation Officer for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch and has served over 35 years in the field of Criminal Justice working with substance abuse treatment agencies and key community organizations while servicing diverse criminal justice populations.
According to Brenda, "Keeping up with the growing demands of the work environment and providing on-going training and support is a difficult task, however, it is my priority, and I embrace the challenges it brings." Brenda is a professor in the Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology and Social Work Department at Eastern Connecticut State University. She is also a faculty member at the New England Alcohol Technology Transfer Center at Brown University, New England School of Addiction and Prevention Studies and the Advanced School of Best Practices. Brenda has been teaching at the collegiate level for the past 35 years at various colleges where she has taught courses such as, Violence in Relationships, Criminal Justice and Society, Social Problems, Controversial Issues, Correctional Classification and Treatment, Women and Crime, Probation and Parole, Violent Offenders, Sociology Perspectives and Race Crime and Criminal Justice.
As an advocate for youth and with over 35 years of service, Brenda has created and implemented youth programming to address the mirage of needs that youth today experience. This includes working with youth around the issues of education, career choices, peer pressure, bullying, cultural competency, health equity, communication, anger management, soft skills and social intelligence. According to Brenda, "The young people in our society need to know that they have a solid foundation and that there are people and programs to support and guide them.” Brenda holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Justice and Law Administration and is a current member of both the American Association of University Professors and the Association for Addiction Professionals.
